Pump Casing Thickness

Volute casing wall thickness by both Lamé's equation and the ASME/UL-448 method — side by side, so you take the governing value.

Method & assumptions
Lamé: t = r · [ √((f+p)/(f−p)) − 1 ] ASME/UL-448: t = p·r ÷ (f − 0.6·p) + 3 mm

Lamé treats the casing as a thick-walled cylinder under internal pressure. The ASME-style check adds a 3 mm corrosion/casting allowance. Use whichever method your specification calls for — designing to the larger of the two is the conservative habit.

Engineering aid only — verify results against the applicable code edition and the equipment datasheet before committing to a design.
